Amazon Same-Day Delivery Surges 70% in 2025 as Groceries Drive Faster Fulfillment

Amazon significantly expanded its same-day delivery operations in 2025, with same-day shipments jumping nearly 70% year over year, fueled by strong demand for groceries and everyday essentials. Speaking on the company’s Q4 earnings call, CEO Andy Jassy said same-day delivery has become Amazon’s fastest-growing shipping option, used by nearly 100 million U.S. customers last year.

Groceries and daily necessities such as health, beauty and baby products accounted for about half of all same-day and next-day deliveries to U.S. Prime members, according to CFO Brian Olsavsky. Amazon now offers same-day delivery for perishable groceries in more than 2,300 U.S. cities and towns. Customers ordering fresh groceries also tend to buy more, adding roughly three times as many items per same-day order compared to other shoppers.

The push for faster delivery is paying off beyond major cities. Rural areas saw nearly double the number of monthly shoppers receiving same-day deliveries compared to the previous year, highlighting Amazon’s expanding reach. Same-day delivery also played a key role during the 2

025 holiday season, enabling later order cutoff times for last-minute gifts. On Christmas Eve, customers in about 4,000 U.S. cities could place orders until midday and still receive them the same day.

Looking ahead, Amazon plans to accelerate delivery speeds even further as competition intensifies from rivals like Walmart. The company is testing “Amazon Now,” a service promising deliveries in 30 minutes or less, in select U.S. markets after strong early results in India, where Prime members tripled their shopping frequency after adopting the service.

These gains are supported by Amazon’s shift from a national to a regional fulfillment network in the U.S., designed to position inventory closer to customers. The company now operates 10 regional fulfillment zones, up from eight previously, helping reduce shipping distances and improve delivery speed while boosting overall network efficiency.
